CALIAN NOMINATES 3 NEW INDEPENDENT DIRECTORS FOCUS ON GOVERNANCE CONTINUES

Kanata, Ontario, January 23, 2003: “The collective abilities and experience of these three candidates would doubtlessly strengthen and deepen our corporate governance. Each of these individuals will bring to the Board valuable insight and business acumen that will lift Calian to a new level of excellence,” stated Larry O’Brien, Chairman & CEO of Calian.

Major General (Retired) C. William Hewson
After retiring from the Canadian Armed Forces in 1991, MGen (Ret’d) Hewson served a nine-year term as Director General Signals Intelligence Production at the Communications Security Establishment (CSE). In 2000, MGen (Ret’d) Hewson founded a consulting firm, Hewson Associates, which specializes in planning and project management. Today, MGen (Ret’d) Hewson continues to be active as a consultant and has a variety of volunteer interests.

Richard A. Vickers FCA
Since 1998, Mr. Vickers has acted as National Chief Operating Officer of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP, one of Canada’s largest law firms. His impressive list of credentials includes time spent as CEO of Scott & Aylen LLP, Managing Partner of the National Capital Region of Coopers & Lybrand, which is now PricewaterhouseCoopers, and Fellow of the Ontario Institute of Chartered Accountants. Mr. Vickers is the President of R.A. Vickers Management Inc., a consulting firm.

Senator David Tkachuk
The Honourable David Tkachuk (Saskatchewan) was appointed to the Senate of Canada in 1993. Since that time, he has served on numerous finance committees. Further to his senatorial duties, Senator Tkachuk continues to take an active interest in provincial politics and is currently the Chairman of the Diefenbaker Society Inc.
